By biblical definition,-humility,- is the state of meekness, lowliness and absence of self. Humility is both considered as, (a)-an inward attitude of the heart and (b)- an outward demeanor of self. While “FEARING” God is the foundation of all wisdom. It is hating evil and keeping God’s’ commandments. The opposite of humility is arrogance, pride, ego, self-exaltation, haughtiness, disobedience and even self-will; the absence of the fear of The Lord brings about all of these. Not only is it important to maintain an outward demeanor that reflects the state of our heart, it is important that both the heart and the outward demeanor reflect the true nature of who we portray ourselves to be. One may put on an outward show of humility but still have a heart full of arrogance, which always leads to all sorts of disobedience.
Jesus in MATTHEW 5:3- states, that ” blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven”. Those who considers and accept this truth of been absolutely bankrupt, as in “poor in spirit” would have these benefits and rewards- the “kingdom of heaven” which means both eternal riches and eternal life. Humility brings about exaltation and honor when one exhibits the fear of God in all one does in reverence to God and His commandments. In 1Peter 5:6 he says-” Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time”. Solomon is therefore right to say” humility and the fear of The Lord are riches and honor and life.
It is therefore my prayer that as you continue to give yourselves to humility and fear of The Lord, riches, honor and life will continue to be your portion in Jesus name. Till we meet again next week remain humble and fear God. God bless you.
