    • Base Scripture: “Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.” –Proverbs 4:23
    • Sometimes being single, you will be surrounded by biohazards; things that are bad for you.
    • At times we have homes and neighborhoods with gates and security to watch for what comes in and out.  Some as our hearts; we must protect our hearts.
    • We can see some people that look beautiful on the outside and horrible on the inside, that is because of what has been allowed in the heart.

    • The Lord wants us to guard our heart as single people.  We have an affinity to open our hearts to others.  Our heart is the seat of our emotions.
    • To guard the heart is to preserve your heart.  Do not spend your affection and attention on everything that looks good.  God has priority of your heart.
    • What does it look like when the heart is guarded?  Sensitive areas must have limited access.
    • What does the Lord want you to guard:
      • Proverbs 4:23 “Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.”
      • Your heart must be like a toll road, whoever passes through it must pay a price.  Do not be as an open road where everyone just passes through your heart with ease.
      • Guard your heart and set watchmen over your heart.  Make sure there are things that prevent you from doing whatever with your heart.
      • There are two ways to preserve things: putting something in or taking something out.
      • What have you removed from your heart in order that your heart will have the real value that the Lord has placed in it?  1 John 5: 21 says “Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.”  we need to be proactive and not reactive.
      • Sometimes in order to preserve your heart, you need to put stuff in.  david said “Thy word have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against Thee.”

  • How to guard our heart:
    • Proverbs 4:23 “Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.”
    • You need to be God-minded.  Sometimes, we don’t understand what the Lord is saying and that causes problems.
    • God wants you to guard your heart with diligence.
    • You must identify who is coming to add and who is coming to subtract from your heart.  In matters of the heart, prevention is better than cure.
    • Guarding your heart is preventing infiltration of the enemy.
  • You must be like a diamond ring.  In the jewelry store, the diamond rings are set in a case and people come and admire them but do not have direct access to them.  To unlock the daimond ring case, there must be a willingness to pay the price.
  • Do not put a diamond on a platter for everyone to touch.
  • You must be sober and vigilant as a single person because the enemy is going to and for seeking whom he may destroy.
  • Intentional action is what it takes to preserve the heart.  When you feel a certain way in your heart, question yourself and make sure you can explain what is going on in your heart.
  • Why should we guard our heart:
    • Proverbs 4:23 “Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.”
    • The most important thing in the life of a person is why someone does something.
    • People who are like-minded will begin to locate you.  Do not lower your standards because you are looking for a mate.
    • The bible talks about a house with many vessels; some for honor and some for dishonor.  The toilet bowl in the bathroom and the plates in the kitchen are both made of porcelain but we only eat out of one.
    • There are also some dishes in the home that we use everyday and then there is china dishes that we put in a cabinet and use once a year.  Your heart should be like the china dishes in the cabinet.  Guard your heart.
